“In October 2022, South Africa will once again make African history by holding the inaugural International Maritime Organisation (IMO) World Maritime Day Parallel Event on African soil over four days, from 11-14 October 2022 in Durban. The IMO has 175 Member States many of whose representatives will descend upon the country during the week. The IMO WMDPE event in October 2022 was awarded to South Africa  by the IMO General Assembly in 2017, scheduled for October 2020, but forcibly postponed to this year due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pan​demic in December 2019.
