31-12-2007 - Newly Appointed SAMSA CEO, Tsietsi Mokhele, set to charter into SAMSA waters

Effective 1 January 2008, Mr. Tsietsi Mokhele, will take the helm as the South African Maritime Safety Authority’s (SAMSA) newly appointed Chief Executive Officer.

 

The SAMSA Board is pleased to announce Mr. Mokhele’s appointment as he brings a wealth of sector-specific experience to SAMSA.  Prior to his appointment, he served as Executive Manager at the National Ports Authority (NPA) and as Head of Marine Businesses at all the SA Ports. Attaining the business goals previously set before him, Mr. Mokhele’s impressive acumen and experience will benefit SAMSA to the fullest as he lends his leadership skills, inspiration, operational and technical aptitude to the organisation.

 

This well-exposed mariner holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ship Navigation from the Caspian Higher Naval College, Soviet Union (Russia), a Board Leadership Qualification from GIBS Business School and is completing a Master of Management Degree at Wits University. He holds qualifications from several international institutions and has participated at international fora such as IMO, IAPH and IHMA.

 

His vast knowledge of the maritime sector, which includes business transformation and repositioning, customer and stakeholder management, and capacity building, will assist the organisation in fulfilling its mandate and further propel it in becoming a leading maritime authority globally. In addition, Mr. Mokhele will work closely with the SAMSA Board, Executive Management and employees in aligning the organisation’s strategic objectives with DoT’s policies and aims.
