The M/V Douala Tide (previously known as Britoil 36) sank off the East Coast of South Africa on 23 August 2007 due to heavy weather conditions. Amidst other findings the vessel submerged due to loss of stability, water ingress and steering gear failure.

Three crew members on a liferaft were rescued by a South African Air Force helicopter. Seven other crew members were recovered from the water, by the Master of the Octopus, a yacht, which received the distress message while on passage to Cape Town. One loss of life was reported.
