The MAIIF was held during October 2007 in
Beijing. Some issues raised were that fishing vessel safety through accident investigation is also to become a permanent MAIIF agenda issue; an interesting paper was also presented on crew and stevedore death on ships hauling logs, sawn planks and wood pellets – very low oxygen contents with extremely high levels of carbon monoxide were noted, even after four days of the cargo being onboard. Three deaths were reported in Sweden recently and seven over the past four years.
It was noted that Cyprus rejoined MAIIF and Hungary is the latest member country to join.
Forum 17 is scheduled to be held in Malta.
