Information and Communication Technology (ICT) encompasses all forms of electronic communication in both digital and analogue form. Digital electronic devices include computers, cellular telephony and satellite broadcasting. Analogue devices are largely confined to conventional radio broadcast technology and audio such as tape recorders.
 
The Role of the ICT unit is to:

• Build and manage an appropriate ICT backbone infrastructure that will enable SAMSA to deliver on its mandate
• Make information available for decision making and Knowledge management
• Offer solutions and services that support SAMSA’s strategic direction
• Raise the status and understanding of ICT, the use and management of information in all sectors
