Overview Verification Accreditation MOSH Seafarer Welfare Assessment and Certification Medical Practitioner​


The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) has introduced an electronic verification of certificates issued to seafarers.
The system relies on all certificates issued in the format of certificates that SAMSA launched earlier this year. With effect from 06 December 2016, verifications of certificates issued on after 05 May 2016 in the following groups will be done electronically;
1. All STCW Certificates of Competency
2. All STCW Certificates of Proficiency
3. Local certificates issued in the new format (including Efficient Cook)

Each verification request shall include (as an attachment to the form) a copy of the certificate being verified. Users are requested to download the form daily to prevent missing out on changes that will produce negative results or return incorrect information. The system requires that all fields be completed correctly to ensure that the correct information is distributed.
For security reasons, the system will not respond to public domain e-mail addresses, e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, yahoo, etc. to prevent private individuals receiving other persons without due authority. SAMSA will record all the details of persons requesting information and may randomly request that the person making verification identify themselves as well as providing more information.
Persons using public domain e-mail addresses may request that they be recognized​ for this purpose be sending an e-mail to All failed request for verification will be automatically rerouted to this e-mail address.
