As required by the Merchant Shipping (Safe Manning, Training and Certification) Regulations, 2013, as amended, the Office of the Chief Examiner, on behalf of SAMSA, has developed and continues to develop the South African Maritime Qualifications Code (the SAMSA Code). The SAMSA Code is the South African mechanism of ensuring compliance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (or STCW), 1978, as amended (STCW Convention) and the Seafarers' Training and Certification Code (STCW Code).

The SAMSA Code is divided into the following sections

           -  GOP-530.01 - SAMSA Code - How to use the Code
           -  GOP-530.03 - SAMSA Code - Matrix
           -  GOP-530.04 - SAMSA Code - Minimum duration of Courses

Enquiries relating to the use and contents of the SAMSA Code may be directed to the Chief Examiner via e-mail to exams@samsa.org.za
